We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Business Development Manager with a strong background in solar funding and power purchase agreements (PPAs). The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in driving business growth, developing strategic partnerships, and closing high-value deals in the solar industry. This role requires a deep understanding of renewable energy markets, financial structuring, and regulatory frameworks related to solar energy projects.

Location: Honeydew, Johannesburg 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Market Research and Analysis:

    • Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, market needs, and competitive landscape in the solar industry.
    • Analyze potential markets and business opportunities to assess feasibility and strategic fit.
  2. Business Strategy Development:

    • Develop and implement comprehensive business development strategies to achieve revenue and growth targets.
    • Identify and prioritize target markets, customers, and projects that align with the company’s strategic objectives.
  3. Sales and Partnership Development:

    • Identify, cultivate, and manage relationships with key stakeholders including commercial, industrial, and utility clients.
    • Develop and maintain partnerships with financiers, EPC contractors, and other industry players.
  4. Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs):

    • Lead the negotiation and structuring of PPAs, ensuring favorable terms for the company.
    • Work closely with legal, finance, and technical teams to draft, review, and finalize PPA contracts.
  5. Solar Project Financing:

    • Develop innovative funding solutions for solar projects including debt, equity, and other financing mechanisms.
    • Engage with financial institutions, investors, and government bodies to secure funding for projects.
  6. Project Development and Management:

    • Oversee the lifecycle of solar projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
    • Coordinate with internal and external teams to ensure timely and within-budget project delivery.
  7. Regulatory and Compliance:

    • Stay informed about regulatory changes and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
    • Advocate for favorable regulatory conditions and participate in industry forums and associations.
  8. Reporting and Performance Monitoring:

    • Monitor and report on the performance of business development initiatives.
    • Use data and analytics to measure success and identify areas for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in business development within the solar or renewable energy industry.
  • Proven experience in negotiating and structuring PPAs and securing project financing.
  • Strong understanding of solar energy technologies, market dynamics, and regulatory environment.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and CRM software.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with large-scale solar projects.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy certifications 
  • Familiarity with financial modeling and project management tools.
  • Established network within the renewable energy industry.
