 Job Purpose 

The Corporate Governance and Compliance Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that the company complies with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), serving as the designated Information Officer, overseeing process and policy development, and supporting the Corporate Governance function. The role will also involve coordinating compliance with company contractual, regulatory and legal obligations.

 

 Key Responsibilities

  1. Policy and Process Coordination and Maintenance
  • Maintain and implement policies and procedures to ensure regulatory and operational compliance across the organisation.
  • Coordinate policy reviews, updates, and manage documentation retention and records to ensure consistency and relevance.
  • Work with department heads to ensure that policies are aligned with operational goals and compliance requirements.

       2.  Corporate Governance Support

  • Assist the Director of Corporate Governance with reporting, governance documentation, and ensuring adherence to corporate governance principles.
  • Liaise with the company secretary to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, governance filings, and company secretarial matters
  • Support corporate governance initiatives, including compliance monitoring and internal audits.
  • Provide administrative support for board meetings and ensure timely documentation of governance matters.

      3.  Procurement and Contract Compliance

  • Oversee portions of the procurement process that relate to compliance and contract management.
  • Ensure that contracts meet legal and regulatory standards, including those relating to data protection, confidentiality, and other statutory requirements.
  • Assist in the review and drafting of contracts and procurement documentation, ensuring alignment with compliance policies.

      4.  POPIA Compliance (as needed)

  • Act as the Information Officer, providing oversight for POPIA-related matters.
  • Assist with maintaining processes for the lawful collection, storage, and processing of personal information.
  • Offer guidance to staff on POPIA compliance and data protection practices when required. Support the company in POPIA-related audits and assessments on an as-needed basis
  1. Regulatory Compliance
  • Stay updated with relevant regulatory changes and ensure the company is compliant with new legislation.
  • Collaborate with legal and other departments to maintain a strong compliance culture.
  • Coordinate with external consultants and auditors on compliance matters as needed.

Skills and Competencies 

  • Understanding of POPIA and data privacy laws.
  • Excellent organisational and coordination skills.
  • Ability to interpret legislation and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with different departments and provide training.
  • Attention to detail, with the ability to draft and review policies, contracts, and governance documents.
  • Analytical thinking to assess compliance risks and provide practical solutions.

 Qualifications and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience in corporate governance, compliance, or legal roles preferred.
  • Knowledge of POPIA and other regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience in policy development and process coordination is advantageous.
