JOB DESCRIPTION: Public Relations Account Manager

REPORTING TO: PR Account Director, Managing Partner, and Managing Director



  • The AM role involves the management and implementation of PR campaigns and related events across a number of accounts, including media liaison and relations, client service, research, writing press material, and other related activities, as required.
  • The AM is responsible for managing workflow and quality of output of their own work as well as of junior members of the account management team i.e. Interns, Account Executives and Snr Account Executives.
  • The AM provides support to the Senior Account Managers, Account Managers and Account Directors.
  • The AM is to deliver timeously on all tasks required and to manage expectations regarding deliverables with his/her Line Manager/s should they differ from the original requirement.
  • The AM is expected to build excellent relationships with the Dialogue team, clients and suppliers.
  • The AM’s personal manner should contribute to the Dialogue team in a positive manner.



  • Relevant PR Tertiary Qualification.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a PR agency.
  • At least 2 years of account management experience.
  • Business 2 Business OR Consumer PR experience with influencer relations management
  • Content Writing and Media Relations experience.
  • Experience in nurturing and growing Client Relationships.
  • Computer literate, Office 365 proficient, knowledge of Social Media and relevant digital platforms.
  • Valid driver’s license, own transport and willingness to travel if needed.

  1. Client Service (weighting: 60 %)
  • Actively manage retainer clients as well as project-based clients simultaneously.
  • Drive the implementation of PR campaigns, providing day-to-day management thereof.
  • Be regarded as the first point of contact for clients, inspiring their loyalty and trust.
  • Meet deadlines and manage client expectations around them.
  • Develop quality PR calendars and media relations schedules for clients (with minimum input from Snr AM/ AD).
  • Prepare regular client reports and run client meetings, presenting reports, ideas and content angles, selling Dialogue in the process.
  • Take minutes in meetings and update PR calendars with quick turn-around times.
  • Maintain weekly telephonic and email contact with clients, following up on deliverables and providing work-in-progress updates.
  • Build and maintain strong media relationships, fostering existing relationships and continually sourcing new contacts to build additional relationships with the media.
  • Monitoring the media, including newspapers, magazines, journals, broadcasts, newswires and blogs, for opportunities for clients.
  • Research and develop fresh new ideas for presentation during internal strategizing sessions
  • Produce good quality written work on time, including monthly status reports, press releases, advertorials, presentation and proposals.
  • Provide accurate verbal and written briefs to staff members and suppliers where necessary.
  • Responsible for event management, including press conferences and promotional events, attending functions as and when required.


  1. Administration (weighting: 20 %)
  • Ensure all financial administration – timesheets, cost estimates, invoices, purchase orders and billings are 100% accurate and completed timeously where necessary.
  • Oversee PR values based on Newsclip coverage statistics and Released, ensuring values generated by AE are correct.
  • Ensure PR Calendar and content schedules are up-to-date at all times and reflect any changes that may be introduced.
  • Ensure that All Dialogue’s client assets are formats and naming conventions are adhered to.
  • Maintain progress reports monthly and distribute reports timeously, depending on the audience.
  • Take responsibility for monthly progress reports; campaign reports, board reports, quarterly reports are completed timeously and oversee the management and maintenance of strike lists, media analysis, reports, etc (refer to Welcome & Induction Pack).
  • Manage own time effectively with respect to campaigns, prioritize tasks and manage the achievement of personal and client objectives.


  1. Technical Skills (weighting: 5 %)
    • Be proficient in Dialogue PR tools and Office 365 tools.
    • Adheres to systems, processes and standards set by Dialogue, providing ideas for improvements if required.
    • Considers problems on multi-faceted levels and makes logical informed decisions and gives feedback, e.g. identifying process efficiency’s, changes to admin process if necessary.
    • Able to work on social media platforms; understanding Influencer Relations; remaining current with new PR, Digital and Social Media trends.
    • Fluently translate offline PR activities to the online space, creating effective points of engagement between audience and client’s brand.
    • Work produced has to be accurate at all times.


  1. Teamwork (weighting: 10 %)
  • Managing workflow and quality of output of junior members of the account management team.
  • Contribute pro-actively at brainstorming sessions.
  • Provide work support to team members and agency staff as a whole.
  • Stand-in for others where required and where reasonable to the point that it doesn’t affect current workload and where priorities are met as determined by the Line Manager/s.
  • Manage expectations regarding deliverables.
