A diverse group of companies with interests in a number of activities including Telecommunications, Utility Management, and Property Management, has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Shift Leader (Day Shift) at their facility in the Southern Suburbs. 

The successful candidate, ready to lead with passion and make a positive impact, will directly report to the Senior Nursing Services Manager, and oversee all nursing care, manage shifts and ensure that patients receive top-notch care. Their leadership will be the key to maintaining the organisation’s high standards and making a real difference. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES, NOT LIMITED TO:  

Care & Medication: 

  • Conduct dynamic nursing assessments, regularly updating care plans to reflect changes in residents’ conditions 
  • Perform High-Risk Assessments to ensure a safe, risk-free environment 
  • Actively participate in Monthly Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings, ready to discuss resident progress 
  • Manage long-term Patients with comprehensive care plans and daily progress tracking 
  • Communicate incidents or condition changes quickly to families and doctors 
  • Ensure precise medication management, including verifying prescriptions and proper documentation 
  • Administer medications accurately, documenting all actions, including any omissions 
  • Monitor and control Schedule 5 & 6 medications, ensuring compliance and safe storage 
  • Keep the Emergency Trolley fully stocked and ready at all times 
  • Oversee High-Risk Medication and IV Medication reconstitution 

Staff and Facility Management: 

  • Maintain seamless communication between shifts for consistent, high-quality care 
  • Oversee daily documents and reports 
  • All staff competencies are up-to-date and tracked on our internal systems 
  • Monitor and manage ward stock and scheduled medications efficiently 
  • Conduct regular rounds to ensure a safe environment and resident well-being 
  • Ensure accurate staff allocation with the Nursing Roster and manage shift performance 

REQUIREMENTS  

Qualifications  

  • SANC registered as a Registered Nurse 
  • Up-to-date Basic Life Support certification is advantageous 

Experience  

  • Proven experience as a Shift Leader / Unit Manager  
  • Experience in a similar leadership position is advantageous 
  • Knowledge of Dementia care, Frail care, and Palliative care is advantageous 
  • Proficiency in organizing and delivering training sessions for staff development 
  • Experience in scheduling and managing staff shifts

  • Clinical Expertise: Strong clinical skills and experience in nursing practice, including assessments, treatments, and patient care 
  • Leadership skills: Ability to lead a team of nurses and healthcare staff effectively, ensuring smooth operations during shifts 
  • Excellent communication skills to interact  
  • Problem-Solving: Capability to make critical decisions, solve complex problems, and handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently 
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to handle changing circumstances and adapt quickly to new protocols or procedures 
  • Team Collaboration: Foster a collaborative environment, working closely with other healthcare professionals to achieve optimal patient outcomes 
  • Ability to effectively manage a nursing unit’s daily operations 
  • Skilled in addressing and correcting staff behaviour or performance issues 
  • Time Management: Efficiently manage time and resources during shifts to prioritise patient care and operational tasks
