Education & Experience
- National Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
- Qualified Tool, Jig and Die Maker / Fitter & Turner (Trade Test)
- 3–5 years’ experience in designing tools (progressive press tools preferred) and manufacturing fixtures
- Toolmaking Technician experience
Main Responsibilities (including but not limited to)
- Manufacture precision tools/parts such as jigs, moulds, dies, and progression press tool assemblies
- Design and manufacture special guides and holding devices for production processes
- Work with metals, alloys, plastics, and ceramics
- Monitor tools produced and implement required modifications and repairs
- Monitor production tools to ensure efficient run rates
- Operate CNC machines and apply solid technical and IT process knowledge
- Assemble, fit, and repair tools
- Interpret engineering drawings and mark designs for tooling and parts
- Use hand tools (files, hacksaws, grinders, etc.)
- Operate lathes, presses, milling machines, CNC machines, and cutter grinders
- Set up and operate Wire and Spark EDM
- Apply 2D and 3D CAD/CAM systems
- Use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, gauges, clocks, verniers, etc.)
- Inspect tools and parts according to drawing tolerances
- Attend tool breakdowns and conduct root cause analysis
- Perform tool maintenance and compile reports
- Create and interpret engineering drawings
- Understand CNC coding language and CNC programming
- Perform other tooling-related tasks as instructed by management
Skills & Knowledge
- Understanding of manufacturing products and technologies
- Knowledge of ERP systems and internal company systems
- Knowledge of company procedures and quality systems
- Knowledge of OHSA and relevant regulatory requirements
- ISO 45001 familiarity
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel Advanced, Word, MS Project)
- Drafting and design skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Knowledge of Solid Edge, CAD, EdgeCAM, FeatureCAM
