Job Purpose

The Pattern Maker is responsible for creating accurate manual and digital patterns for menswear and ladieswear, supporting the end-to-end sample development process from design concept through to production handover. This role requires close collaboration with design, sampling, grading, QA, and production teams to ensure fit, construction, quality, and specification accuracy.

Key Responsibilities
Pattern Development

  • Create manual patterns and, where applicable, digital patterns from scratch, existing patterns, CADs, or physical samples.

Sampling & Fit

  • Assist with cutting sample panels when required.

  • Liaise closely with sample machinists to support garment construction and resolve technical queries.

  • Prepare position markers for outworked components when applicable.

  • Measure completed samples, assess fit on dummies, verify outwork placement, and conduct overall quality checks.

  • Ensure wash care labels and completed sample tags are correctly attached and consistently positioned.

Specifications & Documentation

  • Complete full size specifications and ensure all sample spec sheets contain accurate production information (e.g. zip lengths, binding widths, trims).

  • Ensure each pattern has a signed-off sample and a complete, correct specification prior to production.

  • Support the development and tracking of two production samples per style as part of an evolving process.

Quality Assurance

  • Present completed samples to the QA team for final approval, ensuring timely handover and ongoing communication to track sample return.

  • Address QA feedback and implement required adjustments promptly.

Production Support

  • Once approved, hand correct patterns to the grader for grading and marker making, maintaining close communication to resolve any issues.

  • Handover signed-off samples to the Production Coordinator per brand, ensuring sign-off and tracking samples through production and return.

  • Provide ongoing technical support to Production as needed.

Reporting & Records

  • Photograph all samples, including detailed construction features, and share images on the designated WhatsApp group for record-keeping.

  • Maintain an organised, clean workspace and ensure pattern rails are kept neat and alphabetically arranged by brand at all times.

Technical Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong understanding of woven vs knit fabric behaviour.

  • Knowledge of denim shrinkage calculations and fabric reactions.

  • Ability to assist with garment ratings for costing purposes when required.

  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency in pattern creation and documentation.
