Picture this: diving into the heart of South Africa’s bustling animal feed market, where you turn protein, oils, and fats into game-changing solutions for feed producers. You’ll build powerhouse relationships, spot fresh opportunities, and lead the charge in growing volumes while keeping margins sharp – all in a fast-paced sector that fuels farms and livestock nationwide.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Kick off with business development that packs a punch – grasp the political, trading, and economic vibes shaping the market to craft spot-on strategies.
  • Maximise selling opportunities across the team in the animal feed sector
  • Whip up sales plans analysing volume and profitability for markets, segments, and customers
  • Roll out volume growth plans and hunt down new markets, introducing products tailored to customer needs
  • Team up with industry bigwigs to boost canola meal in feed rations
  • On the sales front, hit the road regionally and nationally to nurture existing relationships and seal deals.
  • Negotiate agreements, smash budgets on volume and margin, and position prices with smart competition benchmarks
  • Gather market intelligence on pricing, products, and trends
  • Keep stock levels in check, liaise across departments for seamless planning, and flag quality issues
  • Deliver top-notch customer service as the customer’s champion inside the business.
  • Handle non-conformance, share market insights weekly or monthly, and drive margin magic by benchmarking products and marketing regionally
  • Stay on top of reporting – weekly sales chats with your manager, monthly KPI breakdowns, and quarterly showdowns at sales conferences. Plus, champion health and safety by joining forums, reporting incidents, and sticking to protocols.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bring a degree in Agriculture, Business, Economics, Maths, or something similar, plus five years in commodity trading – ideally 2-5 years in ag trading with solid animal feed connections.
  • Sharp analytical and numerical skills, with a results-hungry, proactive mindset
  • Confident negotiator who thrives on quick, data-driven calls under pressure
  • Stellar verbal and written comms in English and Afrikaans to build rapport and influence
  • Commercially savvy, linking product know-how to market shifts; ace in Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Customer-focused with a knack for learning, initiative, reliability, and assertive professionalism
