Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mercedes-Benz Truck and Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair our fleet of Mercedes-Benz trucks (Actros) and heavy earthmoving machinery, including, loaders, skied steers, and side tipper trailers to join our technical team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring maximum equipment availability and performance, performing both preventive maintenance and repair work as and when required in the workshop.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Mercedes-Benz Trucks / Earthmoving equipment

  • Maintenance & Repair: Conduct routine maintenance (oil changes, lubrication, filters) and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and braking systems.
  • Technical Inspections: Perform inspections to detect faults.
  • Component Overhaul: Strip, repair, and rebuild machine components such as hydraulic pumps, cylinders, and engines.
  • Field Service: Respond to site breakdowns, troubleshooting, and repairing trucks and trailers.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to company health and safety protocols, including OSHA standards and locking out machinery during repairs.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate service records, repair logs, and inventory of spare parts.

 

Side Tipper Trailers

  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine servicing on suspensions, axles, bearings, and brake systems to OEM standards.
  • Repair and Maintenance: Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain hydraulic pumps, cylinders, hoses, valves, and fluid levels on side tipper trailers.
  • Troubleshooting & Inspection: Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, troubleshooting electrical lighting, ABS systems, and air brakes.
  • Breakdown Support: Attend to roadside breakdowns as required to minimize operational downtime.
  • Documentation: Accurately complete job cards, maintenance reports, and inspection checklists.
  • Safety Compliance:Ensure all repairs comply with road safety regulations and company ISO standards.

 

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience: 5 + years of experience working as a diesel mechanic, with specific experience on Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles (Actros trucks) preferred.
  • Technical Education: Trade certificate, Diploma in Diesel Mechanics, or equivalent qualification or proven relevant experience.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and diesel engines.
  • Licensing: Valid Driver’s License (Code 8/EC).
  • Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Complimentary Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of air brakes, suspensions, and hydraulic systems.
  • Tools: Must have own, standard set of mechanics tools.
  • Transport: Must have own transport to work and back.
  • Quality Control: Ensure high-quality standards in all repairs, minimizing downtime.
