SAIT Tax Trainee (Articles) – 2027 Intake

Office: Pretoria (Lynnwood)
Start Date: January 2027

Kreston SA is seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented candidates who are in the postgraduate year studying BCom (Hons) in Tax, or who already have a postgraduate qualification in tax to join our Pretoria office as SAIT Tax Trainees for our 2027 intake.

This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring tax professionals to gain practical experience in various taxation matters while working towards a rewarding career in tax.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a SAIT Tax Trainee, you will work alongside experienced tax professionals, managers, and partners while gaining practical exposure to tax compliance, advisory, and consulting services across a diverse client portfolio.

 

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will receive broad exposure to taxation and advisory services while developing the competencies required to qualify as a tax professional.

  • Preparing and submitting individual, company, trust, and partnership income tax returns
  • Assisting with VAT, PAYE, SDL, UIF, and other statutory tax compliance obligations
  • Preparing and reviewing tax calculations and tax reconciliations
  • Assisting clients with SARS registrations, amendments, and deregistrations
  • Managing and monitoring SARS correspondence and notices
  • Handling SARS queries, objections, disputes, and verifications
  • Assisting with tax audits and investigations
  • Conducting tax research and interpreting tax legislation
  • Assisting with tax advisory projects and client consultations
  • Preparing tax opinions, memorandums, and supporting documentation
  • Liaising directly with clients and SARS representatives
  • Monitoring legislative changes and assisting clients with compliance requirements
  • Supporting transfer pricing, international tax, and corporate tax projects where applicable
  • Maintaining accurate client records and tax working papers
  • Assisting with monthly and annual tax reporting requirements
  • Building professional relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Taking ownership of personal development and progression throughout the SAIT training programme

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently completing or have completed a postgraduate qualification in Taxation, such as BCom Honours in Taxation or equivalent
  • Sound understanding of South African tax principles and legislation
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn and develop a career within the tax profession
  • Valid driver’s licence will be advantageous
