Job Details

We are looking for a detail-oriented and highly organized Senior Accountant with expertise in general ledger management, debits and credits, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have experience working with ACCPAC and managing a small team of debtors clerks. Experience in developing and documenting financial policies and procedures would be a significant advantage.


Key Responsibilities:
General Ledger Management:

  • Oversee and manage the general ledger to ensure accurate and timely financial records.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of ledger accounts, ensuring all transactions are properly recorded and balanced.
  • Ensure the proper accounting of all debits and credits, verifying the accuracy of financial entries.
  • Manage and maintain the chart of accounts, ensuring proper classification of all accounts.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards.
  • Ensure timely and accurate closing of monthly, quarterly, and annual books.
  • Assist in the preparation of management reports, highlighting key financial insights and variances from budget.
  • Conduct variance analysis on actual vs budgeted performance and report findings to the Financial Manager.

ACCPAC System Management:

  • Utilize ACCPAC accounting software to manage all financial transactions and reporting.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and updating of financial data in the ACCPAC system.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any system-related issues in collaboration with the IT department.

Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and provide guidance to two direct reports in the debtors department, ensuring efficient and accurate processing of accounts receivable.
  • Review and approve debtor reconciliations and manage overdue accounts in conjunction with the debtors team.
  • Support team development through mentorship, training, and performance management.

Policies and Procedures:

  • Assist in the development, documentation, and implementation of financial policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and ensure compliance with internal controls.
  • Review and update existing financial processes to ensure alignment with best practices and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Document workflows and ensure proper training for all staff on updated policies and procedures.

Audit and Compliance:

  • Support external audits by preparing audit schedules, gathering relevant documentation, and liaising with auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, assisting in the preparation of VAT returns and other statutory filings.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, debits and credits, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in ACCPAC (or similar accounting software) with hands-on experience managing financial transactions and reporting.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial standards (IFRS/GAAP).
  • Leadership skills to manage a small team effectively, providing guidance and support to direct reports.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 7-10 years of proven experience in a senior accounting role, ideally within a mid-sized organization.
  • Experience with ACCPAC (required) and a strong understanding of financial software systems.
  • Experience managing a debtors function and working with direct reports.
  • Experience in documenting policies and procedures (preferred).
