Manage the full hire cycle: enquiries, bookings, collections, returns, and follow-ups
Keep a close eye on branch performance, margins, and costs to drive profitability
Lead, motivate, and guide the store team to deliver fast, friendly, and knowledgeable service
Ensure tools and machinery are clean, well-maintained, and ready to hire at all times
Plan and manage staff schedules to cover busy periods and weekend trading hours
Handle customer queries, quotes, complaints, and special requests with professionalism and urgency
Maintain accurate paperwork and system records for hires, returns, damages, and repairs
Monitor stock and equipment levels, arranging transfers or orders to meet demand
Uphold safety standards in the yard, workshop, and front-of-house, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations
Support marketing or promotional activities that drive foot traffic and repeat business
REQUIREMENTS
Proven experience in a similar role within retail, tool/equipment hire, construction supply, or a related environment
Strong people management skills, with experience leading a small to medium-sized team
Solid grasp of basic financials – understanding revenue, costs, and profit drivers
Comfortable working with point-of-sale and hire management systems
Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to handle pressure and solve problems quickly
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, especially with documentation and scheduling
Hands-on, practical mindset – confident around tools, machinery, and a busy yard environment
Willingness to work retail branch hours, including Saturdays and some public holidays
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Confident leader who takes ownership and gets things done
Calm under pressure, especially during early-morning contractor rushes
Practical, solutions-focused thinker with a can-do attitude
Friendly, approachable communicator who builds strong customer relationships
Step into a role where every day is different, your decisions really matter, and a well-run branch is your ultimate badge of honour.
