CNC Lathe Operator
You’ll be the backbone of our precision manufacturing operation, running CNC turning centres that demand skill, attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to quality. This role combines hands-on machine operation with problem-solving, where every part you produce matters and your work directly impacts our reputation for excellence.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
– Read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and work instructions to set up machines correctly the first time
– Set up and operate CNC lathes, manually configuring tooling, fixtures, and offsets for different production runs
– Load CNC programs and make minor adjustments as required to optimise performance
– Inspect finished parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other metrology tools, documenting results accurately
– Monitor machines during operation, catching quality issues early and reporting any nonconforming parts through proper channels
– Maintain machine cleanliness and perform routine preventative maintenance to keep equipment running smoothly
– Follow all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures and company quality systems
– Support the team with secondary operations, part sorting, and continuous improvement initiatives
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
– 2+ years hands-on experience operating CNC lathes in a production environment
– Practical experience with inspection tools—you know how to use a micrometer, caliper, and dial indicator with confidence
– Familiarity with basic CNC programming and tooling selection
QUALIFICATIONS
– A Tool & Die Maker trade qualification or technical diploma (a real advantage)
– Strong attention to detail and genuine mechanical aptitude
– Problem-solving mindset and the ability to troubleshoot when something doesn’t quite fit the drawing
