This Junior Operations Controller role puts you right at the heart of fast-moving, temperature-controlled logistics, keeping trucks, drivers, and loads moving smoothly while everyone else is sleeping.

CORE PURPOSE

Oversee and coordinate night-shift logistics operations so that vehicles run on time, loads are correct, paperwork is spot on, and service to customers never skips a beat.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Monitor and control all night-shift transport activity across multiple vehicles

Coordinate vehicle departures, arrivals, and routes to keep schedules tight and efficient

Track and communicate with drivers and loads to ensure on-time deliveries and collections

Manage delays, breakdowns, incidents, and emergencies with calm, clear decision-making

Check that loading and offloading are done correctly with the right documentation every time

Keep accurate records, logs, and system updates on transport management and tracking systems

Enforce company policies, safety standards, and legal transport compliance

Complete clear, detailed handover reports for the day shift so nothing falls through the cracks

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Matric / Grade 12 (essential)

Relevant logistics, supply chain, or transport qualification (advantageous)

2–3 years’ experience in logistics, transport control, or fleet coordination

Previous night-shift experience in a control-room or operations environment (advantageous)

Confident computer skills – MS Excel, transport management systems, and tracking software

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Strong organisational and time-management skills to juggle multiple vehicles at once

Ability to work independently and make solid decisions under pressure

Excellent communication skills for clear, concise updates to drivers and internal teams

Sharp problem-solving ability with high attention to detail and accuracy

Solid understanding of transport regulations, road safety, and compliance

Strong situational awareness with a practical, risk-aware mindset
