Technical Trainer

A national engineering-driven business is growing its learning capability and needs a Technical Trainer who can turn complex industrial processes into clear, practical training that keeps people safe, skilled, and compliant. This role sits at the heart of operations, working closely with teams in chemical, refinery, and industrial environments to build skills that genuinely matter on the plant floor and beyond.

CORE FOCUS

This role centres on designing and delivering technical training that aligns with SETA, NQF, and SAQA requirements, while still being engaging and easy to apply in real-life situations. Expect a mix of classroom, on-site, and e-learning work, with plenty of collaboration across technical, HR, and operational teams.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop, update, and deliver technical training programmes for industrial, chemical, and refinery environments

Ensure all training content aligns with SETA, NQF frameworks, Unit Standards, and relevant SAQA IDs

Handle SDF-related responsibilities, including skills planning, reporting, and coordinating with relevant SETAs

Conduct needs analyses to identify skills gaps and recommend tailored learning interventions

Use modern training tools and techniques to create engaging, practical learning experiences

Manage and maintain training records and documentation accurately and timeously

Coordinate and support e-learning initiatives, assessments, and blended learning rollouts

Collaborate with operations, engineering, and HR to ensure training supports compliance and operational excellence

Evaluate training effectiveness and continuously improve course content and delivery methods

REQUIREMENTS

Matric (Grade 12)

National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field such as Engineering or a closely related discipline

5–7 years’ experience in a related technical or industrial training environment

Minimum 3 years’ experience working with SDF responsibilities and SETA frameworks

Strong, practical understanding of SETAs, NQF framework, Unit Standards, and SAQA IDs

Background in a chemical, refinery, or heavy industrial environment highly advantageous

A technical trade test would be a strong advantage

Experience with e-learning platforms, with BarnOwl and SharePoint exposure seen as beneficial

Solid grasp of modern training methods, tools, and adult learning principles

KEY SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

Confident facilitator who can engage both shop-floor staff and senior technical stakeholders

Strong planning, coordination, and administrative skills

Comfortable working in structured, standards-driven, and compliance-heavy environments

Analytical mindset with the ability to translate data and frameworks into practical training solutions

Tech-savvy and open to using digital tools to enhance learning
