CORE PURPOSE

Help design, deliver, and continuously improve IT learning experiences that genuinely prepare students for the digital world. That means creating engaging learning material, sparking meaningful classroom and online discussions, assessing fairly and rigorously, and contributing to a culture of academic excellence and innovation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare and deliver engaging lectures, tutorials, workshops, and seminars across IT modules

Design and update curricula and course material for contact, blended and distance learning platforms

Set, invigilate, and grade assignments, tests, and exams with clear, transparent criteria

Provide constructive, timely feedback that guides students towards better performance

Supervise student projects, fieldwork and, where relevant, placements and practical components

Review and refine modules to keep content current, relevant and aligned to quality standards and regulations

Contribute to student recruitment, retention and placements through academic guidance and support

Handle academic administration such as admissions input, timetabling, examinations and attendance tracking

Collaborate with fellow academics to enhance teaching methods and share best practice

Engage in research and scholarship: read widely, write papers, contribute to proposals and publications

Participate in institutional marketing, outreach, and income-generating academic initiatives

Stay actively involved in training, development and academic events, both internally and externally

STUDENT EXPERIENCE & PASTORAL CARE

Offer first-line academic and pastoral support, acting as a mentor to allocated students

Use strong listening and interpersonal skills to handle sensitive student issues appropriately

Appreciate diverse student circumstances and adapt support approaches accordingly

Refer students to relevant support services when specialist help is needed

Promote a safe learning environment by observing and applying health and safety measures

Build productive working relationships with colleagues and take the lead on agreed academic initiatives

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Relevant Honours degree (NQF 8) in an IT-related field with solid specialist depth

A relevant Master’s degree (NQF 9) or near completion of a Master’s is advantageous

Experience teaching contact, blended and/or distance learning programmes

Evidence of published work or research activity is advantageous

Willingness and resilience to work extended hours during peak academic periods

Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

Professional registration with a relevant Board where applicable/mandatory
