POSITION SUMMARY

The Stakeholder Advisor – Africa is a hands-on, operationally focused communications and stakeholder relations professional based in South Africa. This role supports FutureCoal’s Director of Corporate Affairs and Director of Stakeholder Relations, with primary responsibility for driving communications, media, public relations, and content development activities across the African region and globally where required.

 

This is a delivery-focused role. The successful candidate is a proactive self-starter who takes ownership, moves quickly, and consistently produces high-quality written content and communications materials. They work across multiple projects simultaneously, provide direct practical support to senior leadership, and leverage Claude AI as a primary productivity tool to generate professional outputs rapidly and accurately.

 

The role is for someone who thrives on execution, gets things done, and brings energy, initiative, and strong communications craft to everything they produce.

Salary Range

ZAR 480,000 – 660,000 CTC per annum

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Communications & Content Development

  • Draft, edit and finalise a wide range of communications materials including briefing documents, presentations, reports, fact sheets, position papers, and internal communications
  • Use Claude AI daily to produce professional-standard written content quickly and accurately, substantially reducing production time while maintaining quality
  • Develop communications plans, messaging frameworks, and stakeholder communication strategies in support of Corporate Affairs objectives
  • Create content for multiple channels and audiences, adapting tone, format, and style as required
  • Support the development of FutureCoal’s communications calendar and content pipeline

2. Media & Public Relations

  • Draft media releases, media statements, op-eds, letters to the editor, and reactive media responses
  • Prepare media Q&A documents, journalist briefing notes, and media monitoring summaries
  • Support the coordination of media engagements, interviews, and press conferences
  • Monitor African and relevant international media coverage and provide timely summaries and analysis
  • Maintain and update media contact lists for the African region
  • Support the Director of Corporate Affairs with media strategy execution and campaign delivery

3. Direct Support to Director of Corporate Affairs

  • Provide day-to-day communications and content support to the Director of Corporate Affairs (Chris)
  • Draft and prepare corporate affairs materials, correspondence, and project documents as directed
  • Coordinate corporate affairs projects and track progress against timelines and deliverables
  • Prepare executive briefing materials, presentations, and speech notes
  • Manage and prioritise a responsive turnaround on communications requests from the Director

4. African Chapter Support

  • Support stakeholder engagement activities across FutureCoal’s African member organisations and regional stakeholders
  • Prepare and distribute member communications, newsletters, meeting summaries, and coordination materials
  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and supporting African Chapter meetings, events, and working group sessions
  • Maintain African Chapter stakeholder records, contact databases, and engagement logs
  • Support regional initiatives, projects, and advocacy activities under the direction of the Director of Stakeholder Relations
  • Liaise with African member organisations on operational and communications matters

5. Global Support (as required)

  • Contribute to global FutureCoal communications projects and content initiatives as directed
  • Provide communications and content support to other regional programmes and global priorities
  • Participate in global team coordination and contribute to cross-functional projects

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field (essential)
  • Postgraduate qualification in Communications, PR, or a related discipline (advantageous)

Experience

  • 3–6 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, media, or corporate affairs (essential)
  • Demonstrated experience producing media materials, communications plans, and stakeholder communications
  • Experience working in or with the African business, government, or industry environment
  • Track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously and delivering on time
  • Experience using AI tools — such as: Claude, Chat GPT and Gemini— to produce professional content (essential; must be demonstrated at interview)
  • International organisation, industry association, or NGO experience (advantageous)
  • Energy, mining, or resources sector experience (advantageous)

  • Exceptional written English — clear, accurate, professional, and adaptable across formats and audiences
  • Strong command of media writing conventions (releases, statements, Q&A, backgrounders)
  • Ability to translate complex or technical subject matter into accessible, compelling content
  • Fast and accurate — able to produce quality written material under time pressure

Media & PR

  • Sound understanding of media relations practices and the African media landscape
  • Ability to draft reactive media materials quickly and accurately
  • Familiarity with PR planning and campaign execution

Stakeholder Relations

  • Understanding of stakeholder engagement principles and member/association dynamics
  • Ability to communicate professionally and diplomatically with diverse stakeholders
