Human Resource Manager
A fast-moving retail and consumer brand needs an experienced Human Resource Manager to keep people, payroll, and process running smoothly across head office and store operations. This is a hands-on, business-facing role with real breadth: strategic partnering, payroll leadership, employee relations, compliance, and the kind of day-to-day HR oversight that keeps a modern multi-site business ticking.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Partner with leaders to align people plans with commercial goals across head office and store environments.
Guide workforce planning, succession planning, organisational design, and change initiatives.
Deliver clear HR reporting, analysis, and insights that support strong decision-making.
Own end-to-end recruitment, from campaigns and shortlisting through to onboarding.
Build talent pipelines and manage recruitment channels and external suppliers for quality and value.
Lead performance reviews, merit cycles, incentives, bonuses, and development discussions.
Coach managers on accountability, performance improvement, and team development.
Handle employee relations matters with fairness, consistency, and sound judgement.
Manage grievances, investigations, disciplinary processes, and offboarding with care and professionalism.
Oversee monthly payroll processing, reconciliations, and reporting with a sharp eye for accuracy.
Work with HRIS and payroll platforms to keep data clean, connected, and audit ready.
Prepare payroll forecasts, budget reports, statutory submissions, and year-end documentation.
Manage benefits administration, employment contracts, policies, and handbook updates.
Support learning and development planning, training reports, and skills submissions.
Keep HR systems and processes improving, efficient, and easy for employees to use.
Oversee office operations, facilities, service providers, and workplace maintenance.
Support health, safety, environmental compliance, inspections, and incident follow-up.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Business Administration, or a related field.
7+ years of progressive HR experience, including payroll administration.
Strong knowledge of South African labour law, payroll rules, and HR best practice.
Experience in a multinational or matrix environment.
Proficiency in HRIS and payroll systems, ideally Workday and Sage VIP People 300.
Strong Excel skills and solid Microsoft Office capability.
Retail, sports, FMCG, or similarly fast-paced commercial experience is preferred.
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
High standards of confidentiality, accuracy, ethics, and professional integrity.
HR or payroll certification is an advantage.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Organised, calm under pressure, and able to juggle multiple priorities without dropping the ball.
Analytical and detail-focused, especially when working with payroll, reconciliations, and reports.
Confident building relationships across all levels of the business.
Adaptable, resilient, and able to move quickly when business needs shift.
Practical, solutions-focused, and comfortable turning complexity into clear action.
