Production Supervisor

This role oversees a Through-Hole Technology (THT) production line within an electronic manufacturing environment, ensuring output targets are consistently met while maintaining IPC-A-610 Class 2 quality standards.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Production Supervisor is responsible for managing a modular THT production floor, coordinating people, processes, and output in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The focus is on balancing throughput, labour utilisation, and strict quality requirements.

Key areas of responsibility include

Driving hourly and daily production throughput across all THT modular zones to meet set output targets

Managing shifting priorities, schedule changes, and tight customer deadlines without compromising delivery commitments

Allocating staff effectively across stations such as component preparation, manual insertion, wave/selective soldering, and inspection to maintain smooth line flow

Monitoring work-in-progress using automated shop-floor tracking systems to identify delays early and keep stakeholders informed on output metrics

Acting as a visible, hands-on leader on the production floor, maintaining team focus and motivation to achieve daily quotas

Handling line-level grievances quickly and professionally to sustain a positive, low-conflict working environment

Providing real-time performance feedback and coaching to operators to support both individual and team production goals

Identifying skills gaps and organising cross-training in component identification and IPC soldering standards to build a flexible, multi-skilled team

Ensuring that high-speed output remains aligned with IPC-A-610 Class 2 quality requirements, with no compromise on tolerances

Working closely with quality inspectors to detect and address recurring assembly or soldering defects before they affect output and scrap rates

Success in this role is measured through production target achievement, team performance and morale, first pass yield, and overall line efficiency.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Essential experience and attributes

Proven experience as a Production Supervisor or Team Leader in a fast-paced, target-driven manufacturing environment

Background in electronics manufacturing or electronic manufacturing services (EMS) is highly beneficial

Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, resolve floor-level issues rapidly, and make sound decisions to keep production moving

Strong people management skills with the ability to lead, motivate, and maintain high performance standards in a diverse production team

Highly organised, with a strong focus on meeting KPIs and production goals

Proficiency in both Afrikaans and English, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in Afrikaans with production personnel; Afrikaans proficiency is an operational requirement due to daily communication needs on the production floor

Technical competencies and education

Solid working knowledge of manual electronic assembly and component identification

Strong understanding of IPC-A-610 Class 2 quality standards and how they apply to THT assembly and soldering

Experience using computerised shop-floor tracking or production management software

Grade 12 (Matric) with a technical or production background

Further qualifications in Production Management or Operations will be advantageous

NICE TO HAVE

Experience in a THT-specific environment, including exposure to wave/selective soldering lines

Familiarity with modular production layouts and labour balancing across multiple workstations

Experience working within ISO-based quality management systems
