Senior Commercial Litigator

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Litigator to lead and manage complex commercial litigation matters. The ideal candidate will have a strong legal background in South African corporate and commercial law, experience in High Court litigation, excellent client management skills and a proven ability to mentor junior staff.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• LLB degree from a recognised South African university (LLM advantageous).
• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
• Right of appearance in the High Court (essential).

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage high-value commercial litigation matters, including contract disputes, shareholder disputes, insolvency, and regulatory matters.
• Represent clients in the High Court, Arbitration Tribunals, and other relevant forums.
• Draft and review pleadings, heads of argument, opinions, and settlement agreements.
• Advise clients on risk, litigation strategy, and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
• Conduct legal research and provide strategic, practical legal advice.

• Maintain and develop strong client relationships and contribute to business development initiatives.
• Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and candidate attorneys.
• Liaise with counsel, experts, and other third parties as needed for case preparation and hearings.
• Ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory standards, including those of the Legal Practice Council.

Experience:

• Minimum 8–10 years’ post-admission experience in commercial litigation.
• Proven track record of managing complex litigation matters.
• Experience with arbitration, mediation, and regulatory disputes preferred.
• Prior leadership or team management experience is highly advantageous.
