Purpose of the Role
The Health and Safety Officer is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe working environment across the Order Fulfilment operations. The role ensures compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, ISO 45001 standards, and internal policies. This position drives proactive risk management, safety awareness, and continuous improvement to prevent incidents and ensure a culture of safety excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Compliance
- Implement and monitor compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and ISO 45001 standards.
- Ensure legal registers, policies, and procedures are up to date and adhered to.
- Maintain safety files, risk registers, and compliance documentation.
Risk Management
- Conduct regular risk assessments and hazard identification across operational areas.
- Recommend and implement corrective and preventative measures.
- Monitor high-risk areas and ensure controls are effective.
Audits & Inspections
- Conduct weekly and monthly safety inspections and workplace audits.
- Compile safety reports with actionable findings and risk mitigation plans.
- Ensure audit readiness at all times.
Incident Prevention & Investigation
- Lead investigations into incidents, near misses, and hazards.
- Identify root causes and implement corrective action plans.
- Ensure timely reporting and closure of incidents.
Training & Awareness
- Conduct safety inductions for new employees and contractors.
- Facilitate toolbox talks and safety refresher training.
- Promote safety awareness and drive a proactive safety culture.
Emergency Preparedness
- Maintain emergency response procedures and evacuation plans.
- Coordinate fire drills, first aid readiness, and emergency teams.
- Ensure emergency equipment is inspected and fully operational.
Collaboration & Culture
- Work closely with supervisors and operational teams to embed safe working practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety efficiency.
- Promote accountability, teamwork, and safety leadership.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of ISO 45001 and OHS Act.

Minimum Requirements
- National Diploma or Degree in Safety Management, Environmental Health, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a health and safety role within manufacturing, FMCG, logistics, or warehousing.
- Proven experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Experience conducting audits and risk assessments.
- Emergency response coordination experience.
- Computer literate (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- SAMTRAC or equivalent certification (advantageous).
- Valid driver’s licence (advantageous).
