Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, people-centred Mining Foreman to oversee day-to-day operations at our Boshoek site. This role is ideal for someone with strong leadership ability, practical mining experience, and a proactive approach to planning and problem-solving. While deep technical expertise is not required, the ability to lead teams, maintain safety, communicate effectively, and ensure operational continuity through preventative maintenance is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Production
- Lead, supervise, and coordinate daily mining operations to meet production targets.
- Align operational activities with Mine Health & Safety Act (MHSA) requirements and organisational standards.
- Ensure safe production practices and compliance with all relevant mining legislation and site procedures.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Promote a strong safety culture through visible leadership, coaching, and consistent enforcement of rules.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, risk assessments, and toolbox talks.
- Ensure compliance with MHSA, explosives regulations, environmental requirements, and company standards.
- Ensure safe execution of blasting activities in accordance with legal and regulatory standards.
Planning, Coordination & Maintenance
- Develop and communicate daily, weekly, and monthly work plans.
- Allocate tasks, schedule activities, and ensure effective follow-through.
- Drive a preventative-maintenance mindset to reduce downtime and support asset reliability.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure equipment readiness and log maintenance requests.
People Leadership
- Build strong working relationships and contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture.
- Provide guidance, support, and performance feedback to team members.
- Resolve operational issues promptly and maintain open communication across departments.
Administration & Reporting
- Maintain accurate production, blasting, safety, and operational records.
- Compile shift reports, incident documentation, and operational data.
- Utilise digital tools effectively (Microsoft Office, Teams, maintenance logs, planning systems).
Continuous Improvement
- Identify operational inefficiencies, risks, and delays early and take corrective action.
- Participate in audits, safety meetings, and improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to long-term operational planning and development.
Requirements
- Blasting Certificate – essential.
- Practical mining experience with basic mining knowledge.
- Strong understanding of the Mine Health & Safety Act and general mining safety requirements.
- Proven leadership and people management capability.
- Competent computer literacy, including the ability to prepare simple project/work plans.
- Strong organisational ability with a focus on preventative maintenance.
- Able to balance hands-on site involvement with administrative and planning duties.
- Ambition to grow within the company and take ownership of a division.
