CNC Lathe Operator

You’ll be the backbone of our precision manufacturing operation, running CNC turning centres that demand skill, attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to quality. This role combines hands-on machine operation with problem-solving, where every part you produce matters and your work directly impacts our reputation for excellence.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

– Read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and work instructions to set up machines correctly the first time

– Set up and operate CNC lathes, manually configuring tooling, fixtures, and offsets for different production runs

– Load CNC programs and make minor adjustments as required to optimise performance

– Inspect finished parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other metrology tools, documenting results accurately

– Monitor machines during operation, catching quality issues early and reporting any nonconforming parts through proper channels

– Maintain machine cleanliness and perform routine preventative maintenance to keep equipment running smoothly

– Follow all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures and company quality systems

– Support the team with secondary operations, part sorting, and continuous improvement initiatives

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

– 2+ years hands-on experience operating CNC lathes in a production environment

– Practical experience with inspection tools—you know how to use a micrometer, caliper, and dial indicator with confidence

– Familiarity with basic CNC programming and tooling selection

QUALIFICATIONS

– A Tool & Die Maker trade qualification or technical diploma (a real advantage)

– Strong attention to detail and genuine mechanical aptitude

– Problem-solving mindset and the ability to troubleshoot when something doesn’t quite fit the drawing

– Commitment to safety and quality in everything you do
