Experienced, highly organised, Senior Bookkeeper required for company based at the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records up to trial balance, ensuring compliance, and providing reliable financial insights to support decision-making in a fast-paced operational environment.
General:
Manage full bookkeeping function up to trial balance
Daily processing of cash books and bank reconciliation
Daily record-keeping and reporting on cash, EFT and credit card transactions
Daily reporting of cashflow to directors/owners
Compiling commission schedules for sales agents
Sales reconciliation
Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes
Perform and review bank, creditor, and debtor reconciliations
Debtors, ageing and collections
Creditors / Invoicing
General ledger – Maintain general ledger and ensure accuracy of financial data
Petty cash processing
Asset register updates
Month end depreciation updates
Accounts preparation to balance sheet
Prepare and review detailed monthly management reports and reconciliations between accounts
Management accounts
Trial balance to balance sheet
Handle VAT calculations, submissions, and compliance
VAT processing: processing of all VAT invoices to enable VAT submissions (including SARS submissions and dealing with SARS queries)
Process and oversee payroll
Payroll journals and control accounts recons (Salary/PAYE/SDL/UIF) – including staff payments, year-end recon and SARS submissions and dealing with SARS queries
Assist with budgeting and cash flow management
Record keeping (including general filing)
Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and SARS
Supervise and support junior bookkeeping/admin staff (if applicable)
Ad-hoc tasks within the business, as and when these may be required from time to time
Desired experience, qualifications & attributes:
Minimum 5 years+ experience as a Senior Bookkeeper with senior level responsibility
Relevant qualification in Bookkeeping or Accounting (Diploma preferred)
Experience managing multiple entities (advantageous)
Quickbooks, Xero & Pastel qualifications and experience essential
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
Working knowledge of MS Office
Must be highly detail oriented and organized with strong and accurate administration and reporting skills
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Strong organisational and time management skills
Ability to act and operate independently to accomplish objectives and daily tasks and meet deadlines
Must be able to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management and clients
Proficiency in English / Afrikaans with outstanding communication skills, both oral and written
Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays as required
Background references
Clean criminal record
Valid drivers license and own vehicle essential
