Purpose To oversee, coordinate, and control all maintenance and repair activities in the truck workshop, ensuring efficient workflow, high-quality workmanship, compliance with safety standards, and timely completion of jobs to minimize vehicle downtime and maximize fleet availability.

Roles & Responsibilities · Plan and allocate jobs to mechanics and technicians based on skills, workload, and priority. · Monitor daily progress of repair and maintenance work; adjust job assignments as needed. · Ensure that all vehicles are repaired and serviced according to OEM standards and company procedures. · Conduct quality control inspections on completed jobs before release. · Manage and enforce use of job cards, service checklists, and defect reports. · Coordinate with the Workshop Manager and Fleet Department on job priorities and vehicle status. · Supervise diagnosis of complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults. · Supervise and mentor mechanics, apprentices, and assistants. · Conduct on-the-job training and technical guidance for staff. · Evaluate performance and provide feedback for continuous improvement. · Maintain discipline and enforce workshop policies. · Review, approve, and close daily job cards and time sheets. · Maintain accurate records of work done, parts used, and labor hours. · Report on workshop performance metrics (e.g., productivity, rework rate, turnaround time). · Assist in preparing maintenance reports and cost summaries. · Enforce workshop safety procedures and housekeeping standards. · Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings. · Ensure compliance with environmental and health regulations (e.g., waste oil disposal, PPE usage). · Report and investigate incidents, near-misses, and equipment failures. · Ensure tools and diagnostic equipment are in good working condition and properly calibrated. · Report tool shortages or breakages and ensure secure storage. · Support preventive maintenance on workshop equipment (e.g., lifts, compressors). |
Skills Required · Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in heavy-duty truck maintenance (preferably with brands like Volvo, Scania, Mercedes, MAN). · At least 2 years in a supervisory or foreman role. · N3 – N6 or equivalent in Diesel Mechanics / Mechanical Engineering. · Trade Test Certificate: Diesel Mechanic or equivalent. · Valid Code EC (Code 14) driver’s license preferred.
Competencies · Strong technical knowledge of diesel engines, braking systems, transmissions, and electronics. · Excellent leadership, communication, and team coordination skills. · Ability to diagnose complex mechanical faults. · Knowledge of maintenance planning, job scheduling, and resource allocation. · Proficiency with maintenance management systems (MMS/ERP). · Sound understanding of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements. · Problem-solving, decision-making, and time management abilities. · High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
