Purpose

Job Purpose:

To manage and oversee the daily operations of the vehicle workshop, ensuring that all trucks, vans, and company vehicles are maintained and repaired in a timely, cost-effective, and safe manner, in compliance with relevant legislation and company policies.

 

Key Responsibilities

·        Oversee the maintenance, servicing, and repair of a fleet of trucks, LDVs, and yellow machines.

·        Schedule and allocate work to technicians, ensuring optimal productivity and quality.

·        Manage workshop staff including mechanics, technicians, apprentices, and admin support.

·        Ensure all maintenance and repair work complies with health and safety standards and roadworthiness requirements.

·        Monitor vehicle downtime and implement strategies to minimize disruption to operations.

·        Control workshop costs including labour, parts, and external repairs.

·        Maintain accurate service records using a Asset Management System (AMS) Dsolve.

·        Liaise with internal departments and external suppliers regarding parts, warranty claims, and specialist repairs.

·        Conduct regular inspections of vehicles and workshop equipment to ensure compliance with safety and legal requirements.

·        Ensure the workshop operates in line with Industry best practises or other relevant regulatory frameworks.

·        Support the recruitment, training, and development of workshop staff.

·        Manage stock levels of parts and consumables.

 

Skills Required

 

·        Technical qualification in Motor Vehicle Engineering Red seal (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).

·        Proven experience in a similar workshop supervisory or managerial role, ideally within a commercial vehicle or HGV, TMM environment.

·        In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic repair for trucks and vans.

·        Understanding of compliance and legal regulations.

·        Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.

·        Proficient in using workshop or fleet maintenance software.

·        Full, clean driving licence (Code 14 licence desirable).
