Job Summary – Chief Financial Officer for Manufacturing Concern


The Chief Financial Officer will direct and oversee the financial activities of the entity and the preparation of various financial reports, summaries and forecasts.


The position is highly operational and includes input into the strategic direction of the operations, including a manufacturing concern in Africa. The incumbent will need to manage, develop and guide staff and visit branches (in South Africa and African region). The incumbent will also be accountable for the internal control environment, including the automation of various controls and processes and working capital management.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees Accounting, HR and IT departments, budget preparation, financial reporting and audit functions.
  • Work with other department heads to monitor each operation and make recommendations.



  • Directs the preparation of all financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, head office reporting and tax returns. Review monthly General Ledger reconciliations for all operations.
  • Oversee the preparation of Budgets and forecasts.
  • Compares sales and profit projections to actual figures and budgeted expenses to actual expenses; Monthly review, analyses and discussions of the income statement by operation.
  • Analyzes of operations to identify areas in need of reorganization, downsizing, or elimination.
  • Controls cash flow and working capital requirements and management – Review of all Creditors and debtors outstanding amounts and credit limits.
  • Review of Stock Aging and plans to reduce levels.
  • Approves Creditors payments for SA operations and ensures all foreign exposure is hedged appropriately.
  • Authorizes new supplier accounts.
  • Evaluates and Approves Capital Expenditure
  • Meeting with suppliers/customers.
  • Approve IT system changes and access for users.
  • Implement new systems
  • Oversee the documentation and implementation of IT policies and to ensure appropriate training.
  • Review and signing-off on salaries/bonus
  • Oversee the documentation and implementation of HR policies.
  • Approves staff loans and disbursements.
  • Oversee Transformation/BEE and ESG Initiatives and reporting to Head Office.
  • Review of governance in the group.
  • Responsible for the Internal Controls in the company and correction of controls where required.


The key educational requirements, experience and qualifications for this position would be:

  • A Qualified Chartered Accountant
  • Minimum 7 years post articles experience in an executive finance and operations position including a minimum of 4 years Manufacturing experience
  • Experience in the preparation and finalisation of accounts in accordance with current South African regulations.
  • Proven knowledge of cost control, financial analysis, accounting principles, practices, standard laws, and regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of computer software packages and MS Office.
