This Hire Specialist role sits at the heart of a busy equipment rental branch, dealing with everyone from DIY enthusiasts to construction crews who rely on you to keep their projects moving.

CORE FOCUS OF THE ROLE

Handle all things hire-related from the front desk – assisting customers, capturing bookings, and making sure every rental runs like clockwork from quote to payment to return.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Welcome walk-in and phone customers and guide them on suitable equipment for their needs

Capture and manage hire/rental transactions accurately on the system

Prepare and send quotations, follow up, and convert to confirmed hires

Generate invoices, process payments, and handle basic cash/card reconciliations

Check that paperwork is complete, correct, and properly filed for every transaction

Coordinate with the yard/workshop team to ensure equipment is ready on time

Monitor ongoing hires, extensions, and returns to keep agreements up to date

Maintain a neat, customer-friendly front desk and shop floor display

Deal with general customer queries, pricing questions, and availability checks

Assist with branch and store admin, including filing, data capture, and reports

Help build long-term relationships with regular contractors and repeat customers

Flag any issues, damages, or disputes promptly and help resolve them professionally

REQUIREMENTS

Matric / Grade 12

Experience in a customer-facing, retail, rental, or counter sales environment

Previous exposure to tool/equipment hire, hardware, construction, or DIY retail is a strong advantage

Comfortable working with invoices, quotes, and basic financial transactions

Confident on a computer with the ability to learn rental/point-of-sale systems quickly

Strong communication skills in person and over the phone

High attention to detail and accuracy with numbers and paperwork

Reliable, organised, and able to handle a fast-paced, walk-in customer environment

Willing to work branch retail hours, including some weekends when required
