A dynamic, innovative and inspiring company providing fintech solutions across multiple sectors is looking for a Legal Counsel to provide high value strategic legal services including advice, transactional work, preparation of documents, legal negotiation and representation in the Governance and Legal team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Working closely with the business to identify and manage legal risks in respect of:
- existing operating businesses and strategic partnerships
- commercial arrangements with internal and external counterparties
- expansion of the business through technology development and digital banking initiatives (e.g., development, IP protection and partnerships)
- Ensuring that the business enters into commercial arrangements (including ICT and IP) on terms that are acceptable to the company, and which reflect best practice and appropriately manage risks
- Providing appropriate legal advice to the business regarding the company’s rights and obligations under corporate and commercial arrangements (including ICT and IP) and related legal matters
- Ensure internal clients receive appropriate advice when disputes arise
- Assist in managing external law firm relationships, engagements and costs
- Provide accurate, timely, commercial advice in plain English
- Ensure deadlines are strictly adhered to

REQUIREMENTS
- Law degree and admission in relevant jurisdiction (South Africa)
- Minimum 5 years’ post admission commercial law experience in negotiating, drafting and vetting commercial agreements including software, technology, digital services and Intellectual Property transactions and agreements
- Broad risk management (including regulatory and compliance) and corporate governance experience
