Mathematics and Physical Sciences Tutor
This full-time role is based on the East Rand (Benoni) and focuses on supporting Grade 4–12 learners in Mathematics and Grade 10–12 learners in Physical Science within a structured extra-tuition environment.
ABOUT THE ROLE
You will support school learners by reinforcing classroom teaching and helping them build confidence in key STEM subjects in a dedicated learning centre. The environment combines computer-based learning with active tutor guidance, so your role is hands-on and learner-focused throughout the day.
- Deliver high-quality tutoring in Mathematics (Grades 4–12)
- Provide Physical Science support for learners in Grades 10–12
- Use established methodologies and resources to stay aligned with the centre’s teaching approach and values
- Adapt quickly to different learners, grade levels and learning styles
- Monitor learner progress and offer constructive feedback and encouragement
- Contribute to a positive, respectful and inclusive learning atmosphere
- Work a full-time schedule: 8 hours per day Monday to Friday, plus 4 hours on Saturdays
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Fluent Afrikaans and English communication skills (spoken and written)
- Strong subject knowledge in Mathematics (Grade 4–12) and Physical Science (Grade 10–12), with at least 75% for both subjects in Grade 12
- Reliable own transport to and from the centre
- Confident communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with colleagues
- Willingness to follow established tutoring systems and uphold centre values
- Availability for the stated working hours, including Saturdays
NICE TO HAVE
- Teaching qualification, education studies or related training
- Previous tutoring or teaching experience, whether formal or informal
- Experience supporting learners in small-group or one-on-one settings
