Temp Payroll Consultant – Job Description
Job Purpose
The Temp Payroll Consultant will provide specialised payroll support on a fixed-term basis. The role focuses on ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, resolving payroll queries, maintaining compliance with legislation, and supporting the payroll team during peak periods, projects, or staff shortages.
Minimum Requirements

BCom Finance, Accounting, HR, or related qualification (advantageous)

Solid payroll experience within a corporate or multi-entity environment
-
Strong understanding of payroll legislation, SARS requirements, and employment conditions
-
Advanced payroll tax knowledge and practical experience
-
Strong accounting/finance competency
-
Proficiency in payroll systems and MS Excel
-
Ability to work independently and deliver under tight deadlines
-
High attention to detail and confidentiality
Duties & Responsibilities
Payroll Processing
-
Process end-to-end payroll accurately and timeously for assigned entities.

Verify and capture payroll inputs including allowances, deductions, overtime, and leave.

Ensure correct calculations for month-end salary payments.

Process payroll changes (new hires, terminations, increases, etc.) within required timelines.
Compliance & Administration

Maintain compliance with payroll legislation and SARS requirements (PAYE, UIF, SDL, etc.).

Assist with payroll reconciliations and statutory submissions.

Ensure payroll records, employee files, and system data are kept accurate and up to date.

Support internal and external payroll audits as required.
Support & Consulting

Provide expert payroll advice and assistance to HR, Finance, and employees.

Troubleshoot payroll discrepancies and resolve queries efficiently.

Assist with payroll system updates, improvements, or migrations if needed.

Step in to support the payroll team during high-volume periods or leave coverage.
