A design company is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer for their Durban site. 

Location: Durban, South Africa 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Manage and coordinate the manufacturing processes in either fabrication, tooling and machining or related areas from inception to completion.  
  • Lead and supervise a diverse team of technicians and manufacturing staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.  
  • Develop and implement strategic production plans to optimize efficiency, minimize downtime, and reduce costs while maintaining high-quality standards.  
  • Oversee the procurement of materials, equipment, and resources necessary for production operations, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budgetary constraints. 
  • Collaborate with design and engineering teams to review project specifications, identify technical requirements, and provide input for process improvements.  
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and implement training programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of subordinates.  
  • Maintain compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and quality assurance protocols, ensuring a safe and productive working environment.  
  • Analyse manufacturing data, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions to enhance overall efficiency and productivity.  
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues, troubleshoot manufacturing problems, and ensure timely resolution of customer inquiries or concerns. 

REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field. 
  •  Proven experience (10+ years) in a manufacturing management role within the automotive manufacturing industry, with a focus on automated production lines. 
  •  Strong technical background in design, toolmaking, or similar areas of expertise, with a deep understanding of manufacturing processes and equipment. 
  •  Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a track record of successfully managing multi-disciplinary teams and driving operational excellence. 
  •  Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and clients. 
  •  Proficiency in project management tools and software, with the ability to develop and execute strategic production plans. 
  •  Knowledge of industry regulations, safety standards, and quality assurance protocols, with a commitment to maintaining compliance and upholding best practices. 
  •  Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse complex issues, develop innovative solutions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. 
  •  Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, tight deadlines, and evolving business needs in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
