Position overview
The Field Operations Manager will lead and oversee field-based maintenance project activities across several projects, ensuring efficiency, operational excellence, and alignment with organisational goals. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills, capable of managing multiple teams, optimising standard operating procedures for maintenance operations, and driving performance improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategy and Operational Plans: Duties include but are not limited to:
1.1 Develop and implement strategic operational plans to enhance field maintenance efficiency and productivity.
1.2 Develop and implement strategic operational plans, policies, and procedures to drive business growth.
2. Leadership: Duties include but are not limited to.
2.1 Lead, manage, and support maintenance field teams, ensuring high performance and adherence to company standards and customer Service
Level Agreements (SLAs).
2.2 Oversee and manage the overall maintenance operations of the field operations team, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness, and continuous
improvement.
2.3 Develop training programs and career development plans for field personnel.
3. Field Management: Duties include but are not limited to:
3.1 Work closely with Project managers to plan and implement schedules and
rosters for proactive maintenance, while catering for simultaneous reactive
maintenance.
3.2 Oversee daily field maintenance operations, including logistics, resource
allocation, and workforce management.
3.3 Management of the field vehicle fleet.
3.4 Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and improve field
maintenance operations.
3.5 Utilise data analytics to assess field performance and implement data-driven
decisions.
4. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including sales, customer service, Project Managers and supply chain teams, to ensure seamless operations.
5. Process improvement and Operational Efficiencies: Duties include but are not limited to:
5.1 Drive process improvements and innovation to enhance maintenance
operational effectiveness.
5.2 Address operational challenges and troubleshoot issues in real time.
5.3 Drive innovation by adopting new technologies and industry best practices.
6. Compliance and Governance: Duties include but are not limited to.
6.1 Ensure compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements in all
field maintenance and installation activities.
7. Cost and Budget Management: Duties include but are not limited to:
7.1 Manage budgets, costs, and resources to optimise operational expenses.
8. Documentation & Reporting: as per stakeholder requests.
Education and Experience
• Matric and NQF 6 equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Operations Management, Project Management or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in field maintenance operations, logistics, or related areas, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Experience in maintenance operations relating to CCTV, Traffic Signals, Freeway Management Systems, Automatic Fare Collection Systems, Advanced Public Transport Management Systems, Fleet Management.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to field sites as required.
