This role focuses on helping clients improve their finance and operational processes through modern ERP solutions, with a particular emphasis on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and related Microsoft technologies.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Functional Consultant – Finance works closely with client stakeholders to understand their finance and operational processes, translate requirements into ERP configurations, and support the successful adoption of Business Central or comparable ERP platforms.

• Day-to-day activities typically include:
• Engaging with finance and operational teams to understand current processes, challenges and desired outcomes
• Running discovery sessions, process reviews and requirements workshops
• Documenting and analysing business requirements with a strong focus on finance workflows
• Translating business needs into clear functional requirements and practical system improvements
• Identifying opportunities for automation, standardisation and process optimisation in line with ERP best practice
• Contributing to functional solution design and documenting functional specifications, configuration decisions and process flows
• Supporting senior consultants, project consultants and developers with detailed solution requirements
• Participating in solution review sessions, bringing accounting and business process insight into design decisions
• Configuring standard ERP functionality under guidance from senior team members where appropriate
• Assisting with new implementations, enhancements, upgrades and system changes
• Supporting data migration activities, including data validation and reconciliation checks
• Maintaining accurate configuration, process and project documentation
• Assisting with go-live preparation and providing post-go-live support to stabilise the solution
• Preparing and executing functional test plans and test scripts
• Supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT), logging and tracking issues, and validating solutions against requirements
• Ensuring testing evidence and sign-off documentation are properly completed
• Delivering user training for finance and operational users and preparing user guides and training materials
• Providing structured client support during implementation, go-live and stabilisation phases
• Building strong working relationships with client users and decision-makers and escalating risks or unresolved issues appropriately
• Developing and maintaining knowledge of Business Central and related Microsoft technologies
• Contributing to internal documentation, templates and delivery standards and sharing lessons learned with the wider team
• Participating in relevant training, certifications and knowledge-sharing activities to enhance ERP consulting capability

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Essential background and experience

• Degree or equivalent background in financial accounting, finance, commerce, business management, information systems or a related field
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in one or more of the following: finance, accounting, ERP support, business analysis or consulting
• Strong understanding of core finance processes, including:
• General ledger
• Accounts receivable
• Accounts payable
• Cash management
• Financial reporting
• Ability to understand end-to-end business processes and translate them into clear system requirements and configuration
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to work with both finance and non-finance stakeholders
• Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
• Willingness to learn new technologies and operate in a client-facing consulting environment

NICE TO HAVE These skills and experiences are advantageous but not strictly essential

• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV
• Experience with other ERP platforms such as Sage, SAP Business One, SYSPRO, NetSuite, Acumatica or similar systems
• ERP implementation or upgrade project experience
• Microsoft certifications or a clear intention to work towards relevant certification paths
• Exposure to Power BI, Power Platform or Microsoft 365 tools
• Previous consulting, training or client support experience in an ERP or finance-related context
