ABOUT THE JOB
The Applications Manager leads and manages the development, enhancement, and performance of the core business applications to ensure stability, scalability, and alignment with business goals. This role delivers innovative customer-centric software solutions that drive value, efficiency, and digital transformation across the organisation. The Applications Manager oversees architecture, development, roll-out, and maintenance of all core business applications, ensuring system stability and performance. This role manages integrations between systems, partners with business functions to configure and optimise application workflows, and drives measurable improvements in operational efficiency. The position actively participates in the Technology Governance Council and translates business requirements into scalable, user-centric technology solutions while managing end-to-end delivery of application projects using Agile and Scrum methodologies.
Responsibilities
- Oversee core business roadmaps, application performance, integrity, and system availability.
- Ensure application performance and reduction in recurring application-related ticket volumes.
- Drive business value through innovation, automation, and digitalisation initiatives.
- Manage end-to-end delivery of application projects using Agile and Scrum methodologies.
- Collaborate with Infrastructure and Cloud teams on unified automated change management frameworks.
- Lead, mentor, and coach team members to achieve operational and developmental goals.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation within the team.
- Embed user feedback into product backlogs and development processes to enhance product experience.
- The Entrepreneur: Identify opportunities, conceptualise solutions, and implement innovations.
- Business Analyst: Analyse operational performance metrics and design process innovations.
- Product Development: Assess market, design new products, and extend competitive differentiation
Experience / Role Requirements
- National Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer science, Information Technology, or Business Administration
- Project Management (PMP) and Agile/Scrum (CSM or CSPO) certifications
- ITIL V4 Foundation certification
- COBIT certification
- Minimum 7-10 years of direct management experience
- 10-15 years’ experience managing business applications and software development functions
- 5-7 years’ experience implementing and optimising core business applications such as ERP, CRM, Mobile Apps, etc.
- 5-7 years’ strong exposure to Agile delivery, DevOps, and vendor management
- Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) Management expertise
- ERP & Business Systems Management knowledge (e.g., Odoo, SAP, or similar)
- Integration Architecture and API Design understanding
- Quality Assurance and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) knowledge
- Strategic and Analytical Thinking capabilities
- Business Process Mapping and Reengineering skills
- Vendor & Partner Relationship Management experience
