Junior Financial Accountant

We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented recent University graduate in Financial Accounting to join our Retail business’ finance team in Salt River Cape Town. This position offers you the opportunity to gain exposure to a wide range of financial activities and to contribute to the success of our organisation. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced chartered accountants, accountants and financial clerks in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Amongst others, your duties may include:
  • Contribution to the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
  • Participation in the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled.
  • Reconciliations and assisting with maintaining the accuracy of the general ledger.
  • Providing assistance in processing invoices, payments, and receipts, ensuring timely and accurate recording of transactions.
  • Supporting the preparation and monitoring of budgets and forecasts, analysing variances and reporting findings.
  • Compliance and regulatory reporting:
  • Assisting in the preparation of reports required for regulatory compliance, including VAT returns and other statutory filings.
  • Help implementing and monitoring of internal control procedures
  • Undertake special projects and financial analyses as required by management.
  • Liaising with internal departments and external parties, including auditors, banks, and suppliers, as necessary.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline from one of South Africa’s leading universities
• Strong analytical and numerical skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• High computer-literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of products, with particular focus on Excel
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently
